23 Mar Spring (23.03.2017).
Spring is arriving here in fits and starts. There is snow on the hills today but we have had some lovely dry, sunny and settled weather. We are just waiting for the soil to dry up enough to begin rotavating. Everything is starting to bud and the crocus and primroses are in full swing. The daffodils have been lovely this year and due to the clearing of overgrown shrubs last year, we are seeing some new varieties appearing for the first time! We have completed mulching and re-working the main border. This year our dahlias will be moved to the cutting borders and we will be trialling some tender salvias (for late colour) in the border instead. Seed sowing for the kitchen garden is well underway, lots of new flower varieties, tomatoes, peppers, celeriac, and aubergines. We will just have to wait now for some warmer weather!
